HISTORY

CONGA

The conga has its origin in an African relative made from a solid trunk hollowed skin and a dunk on one end opening. However, despite this strong remote kinship Africa, congas could not have been developed without the manufacturing technique and materials Europeans. Such is the case of Spanish wine barrels. Over time, the congas have undergone several changes in both its constitution and how to execute them.

Makuta drum of Bantu origin, has been identified as a possible ancestor. Another ancient name given by African natives to this instrument was "bakery". You will then be called "tomb", a word derived from the Bantu language. Subsequently, names like "salidor" is used, "3-2" and "fifth".

TIMBALES

In the late 18th century, due to the Haitian revolution, many Haitians moved to Cuba and brought with them their rhythms, including the Haitian quadrille which had been developed from the French quadrille. In Cuba the Haitian quadrille evolved into Creole quadrille or habanera dance. The groups that played the habanera dance orchestras were called and included winds woodwinds, brass winds, timpani guiro and Creole. Although the timpani Creole was a smaller version of the European timpani, it was not an easy instrument to carry.

TAMBORA

Dominican drum has a body composed of fixed tables together and arranged in a wooden cylinder.

Güira

A calabash is a percussion instrument originated in the Dominican Republic, which is also called foreigner foreigner. The calabash is a metal version of the guiro gourd that is manufactured and used in Cuban music and cumbia frequently. The guiro is a wooden cylinder on which are marked (on one side) a series of deep grooves. However güira is made of metal. It has a handle to hold the instrument. It is played vertically holding the handle with your hand. He scraped with a comb of metal spikes.

It is used as the main percussion instrument in merengue. In Argentina it is present in the different musical styles of cumbia: the Argentina cumbia, the Santa Fe cumbia, quartet Cordoba, Cordoba merengue, cumbia and the northern slum cumbia; and that instrument is commonly called calabash gourd instead
